BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Cumberland Men's Track & Field closed out the UAB Spring Invitational with a runner-up finish, multiple top-five performances, and a personal best in the middle-distance events.

Matteo Abel led the way for the Phoenix with a second-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing in 1:55.03 to pace Cumberland's distance group. Elliott Hughes added a personal-best time of 1:57.58 to place 12th, while Wesley Calderon finished 21st in 2:10.41.

In the sprints, Logan Istre delivered a pair of top-four finishes, placing fourth in both the 200 meters at 21.51 and in the 400 meters at 48.83. Abdoulaye Bah added a 14th-place finish in the 200m in 22.49, while Veron Ifill placed 14th in the 400m with a time of 50.81. Bela Brandl rounded out the quarter-mile group with an 18th-place finish in 52.10.

Mohamed Hatem Galal represented the Phoenix in the 400-meter hurdles, turning in a seventh-place finish with a time of 58.61.

In the field events, Liyu Scarlassara led Cumberland with a third-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 13.89 meters, while also placing seventh in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters. Dinkon Sinisterra added a 14th-place finish in the discus with a throw of 35.50 meters.

Cumberland will be in action next weekend at the Tennessee Invitational.
