Phoenix Men Post Multiple Top-Five Finishes on Day Two at Lee Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn.--Cumberland men's track & field continued competition at the Lee University Invitational on day two with multiple top-five finishes and strong depth performances across distance and sprint events.

Matteo Abel delivered a top-five finish in the men's 5000 meters, placing fifth out of 35 competitors with a time of 15:12.24.

In the 1500 meters, Bela Brandl paced the Phoenix with a fourth-place finish in a field of 52 runners, crossing in 4:02.57. Elliott Hughes also turned in a top-10 performance, finishing eighth in 4:09.21. Garrett Tunks (34th, 4:24.43) and Wesley Calderon (42nd, 4:38.06) added depth for Cumberland in the event.

On the track, Dinkon Sinisterra placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.58, while also contributing to the Phoenix relay success later in the day.

Cumberland saw a trio of competitors in the 400 meters, led by Abdoulaye Bah, who finished 18th in a field of 42 with a time of 50.67. Diego Silva (28th, 53.55) and Kamari Cawthon (40th, 56.02) rounded out the Phoenix performances in the event.

The Phoenix closed out the day with a strong showing in the men's 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet of Logan Istre, Abdoulaye Bah, Dinkon Sinisterra, and Vernon Ifill combined for a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:18.76.

Cumberland will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the UAB Spring Invitational next weekend.
