Brandl Posts Top-Five Finish to Highlight Day One at UAB Spring Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Cumberland Track & Field opened competition at the UAB Spring Invitational on Friday, competing in four events. 

The Phoenix had three athletes take on the 1500m. Bela Brandl led the way for the Phoenix, turning in a top-five finish in a competitive field of 26 runners. The freshman crossed in 3:59.46, marking a personal best and pacing Cumberland's distance group on the day. Matteo Abel followed with a 10th-place finish in 4:09.48, while Wesley Calderon rounded out the trio with a time of 4:38.93.

On the women's side, Wendy Komane represented the Phoenix in the 1500m, finishing 17th overall with a time of 5:08.18.

In the field events, Rita Francis competed in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 17.85 meters, while Dinkon Sinisterra posted a throw of 42.50 meters in the javelin to finish 11th overall.

Cumberland will continue competition at the UAB Spring Invitational tomorrow, with action set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
