Idamadudu and Bokpin Have Strong Showing at Day One of Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Track and Field team was in the capital city for the second time in as many weekends, taking on the Vanderbilt Invitational.

In the 200 meter, Praise Idamadudu did what she has done and kept the hot streak going as she took the victory while running a 24.25. Idamadudu went four tenths of a second past the NAIA "A" standard, which is the fastest time of the day among all competitors and the second fastest 200 meter in the NAIA this indoor season.

In the throws, Zoe Vlk continued to impress as she already has this season. Vlk made the final and finished in seventh place, with her best throw of the night at 17.66 meters ranking first among NAIA competitors. Vlk hit the "A" standard yet again and set her new season high and now has the fourth and fifth best weight throws of the indoor season. Teammate Sophiat Omizi finished in 27th place with a 11.08 meter throw.

In the 5,000 meter, Samantha Parker finished with a time of 20:28.04 in which she ended up finishing in 42nd place. Parker finished 5th among NAIA competitors. The final competition of the day for the women was the 1k, which a host of Phoenix competed in.

Five members of the team ran and nearly finished in a line, with only one spot separating them all. Sarah Wikerson led the way a 3:17.56 time for 37th, followed by Hope Britt 3:22.23 (38th), Sharon Jerop 3:23.83 (39), Jenna Towles 3:24.52 (40th), and Lilah Mohler 3:27.29 (42nd).

On the men's side of the action, the earliest competitor of the day for the Phoenix was Dinkon Sinisterra who after his four events, found himself in third place overall. His performance in the 60m dash set him back as he finished in 5th with a time of 7.52, but his consistency helped to pull him back into the challenge.

Third place finishes in the long jump, shot put, and high jump gave him enough points to secure a podium finish after day one by just two points. Sinisterra will compete in the 60m hurdle, pole vault, and finally in the 1000m race to finish the heptathlon tomorrow morning.

In the long jump three different Phoenix competed, with Amir Mersal leading the way. His leap of 6.78 meters landed him in the final, where he would place ninth, followed by Ahmed Demerdash and Liyu Scarlassara who finished in 25th and 26th respectively with equal distances of 5.62 meters.

Ethan Garcia and Maxwell Berkey both ran in the 5k, with Garcia being the only of the two to finish. His time of 17:47.28 landed him in 32nd place.

The 200 meter dash was led by standout Phoenix, Mustapha Bokpin who hit "B" standard for a second time this season in the event. His time of 21.56 landed him 4th place in the event, first among NAIA competitors, and gave himself another top ten time for this indoor season. Veron Ifill also competed in the event and ran a 22.89, landing in 36th place overall.
