Istre Leads the Pack for Phoenix Men's T&F at Lee Fast Break Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - - The Cumberland men's track and field team competed today in the Lee Fast Break Invitational and had a number of standout performances.

Logan Istre, Abdoulaye Bah, Diego Silva Perez, and Veron Ifill all competed in the 200m dash, with Istre pacing the field for the overall win. The senior from Mt. Juliet ran a 21.11, outrunning his nearest competitor by 0.13 seconds, which gives him the "B" standard in the event and ties him for the sixth lowest time in the outdoor season.

Bah finished just outside of the top five in sixth place with a time of 21.50, while Ifill ran to a 12th place finish with his time of 22.02. Perez rounded out the Phoenix in the event with a time of 23.03, good for 33rd.

Dinkon Sinisterra was the lone competitor for the Phoenix in the 400m hurdle, getting the Phoenix three points from the event with a sixth place finish in 58.02.

Garrett Tunks, Charles Hughes, and Bela Brandl all ran in the 1500m, with Brandl taking the highest finish for the Phoenix. Brandl ran his race in 3:57 to land himself in 15th place, while Hughes ran his in 4:04.14 to finish in 35th place. Wrapping up the event for the Phoenix, Tunks ran 4:15.23 for 60th place.

Wesley Calderon was the lone Phoenix in the 5k, running the longest distance race for Cumberland in 18:49.68.

In the field, Liyu Scarlassara competed in the high jump, taking ninth place with a distance of 1.90m.

Scarlassara also competed in the long jump, alongside Dinkon Sinisterra. The Italian leaped to a ninth place finish with a distance of 6.53m, while the Colombian finished in 13th with his own distance of 6.27m.

The Phoenix will compete again tomorrow afternoon in a number of events before heading back to Lebanon.
