Women's Soccer Climbs Two Spots to No. 12 in NAIA Coaches Poll

LEBANON, Tenn.-- The Cumberland women's soccer team jumps up two spots in the rankings to No. 12 announced by the NAIA this morning.

Coming in at No. 14 in the previous polls, the Phoenix grabbed their biggest win of the year just days after the rankings were announced. Taking on the No. 2 ranked Patriots to open up conference play at home, the Phoenix got the best of the Cumberlands in a 2-1 victory, thanks to late heroics from Uxia Varela.

The only other game that was included in this updated ranking was a 2-1 loss to a strong side in Georgia Gwinnett. Cumberland pulled out ahead in the 19th minute but the home-side Grizzlies got their goal back to level it in the second half and then another in the 78th minute to take down the No. 14 Phoenix.

This afternoon the Phoenix will hit the road to take on Lindsey Wilson University in their second conference match of the season.
