Men's T&F Finishes in Fourth at MSC Championships; Bokpin earns Freshman of the Year honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland men's track and field finishes in fourth place at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, highlighted by multiple standout performances and a Freshman of the Year honor. The Phoenix battled against tough competition and came away with four conference titles, along with several other top finishes.

In the team standings, Cumberland finished fourth overall with 88 points. Cumberlands (Ky.) dominated the event, securing the conference title with 308 points. Lindsey Wilson finished second with 154 points, while Campbellsville took third with 134. Georgetown (29) and Bethel (15) rounded out the standings.Bokpin FOY

The Phoenix crowned three individual conference champions at the meet. Freshman Mustapha Bokpin shined in the sprints, winning both the 60m (6.64) and 200m (21.26) titles. Kennedy Bett delivered a strong performance in the distance events, securing the 3000m championship with a time of 8:32.25. Cumberland also took home a relay title as the 4x400m team of Veron Ifill, Bokpin, Logan Istre, and Benjamin Nyakudya crossed the line first in 3:16.30. For his outstanding efforts, Bokpin was named the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year.

Beyond the champions, several other Phoenix athletes contributed valuable points. Bett added a runner-up finish in the mile with a time of 4:18.63. In the hurdles, Renaldo Savoury placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.65), while Dinkon Sinisterra set a personal best to finish fifth in 8.69.

Cumberland also had strong performances in the sprint and mid-distance events. Nyakudya clocked 49.29 in the 400m to finish sixth, while Ifill posted a personal-best time of 50.12 to place 13th. In the 200m, Nyakudya ran 22.19 for 11th.

The Phoenix saw key contributions in the field events as well. Amir Mersal placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.27m and added a seventh-place finish in the long jump at 6.37m. Scarlassara Liyu cleared 1.90m in the high jump to place fourth, while also finishing 11th in the triple jump (12.38m). Sinisterra added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.10m.

In the relay events, the distance medley team of Edwin Kigen, Sinisterra, Josh Mayhugh, and Ethan Garcia placed fourth with a time of 11:15.16. Their efforts, along with the individual performances throughout the meet, helped Cumberland secure its fourth-place finish in the conference standings.

The Phoenix track and field team will now set their eyes to the NAIA National Championship in Gainesville, Florida from February 27-March 1.
