Bokpin's Record-Breaking Run leads Phoenix on Day One of Lee University Invitational

CLEVELAND, Tenn.--Cumberland University men's track and field opened its outdoor season with strong performances at the Lee University Invitational, highlighted by Mustapha Bokpin's record-setting victory in the 200m dash.

Bokpin stole the show in the 200m, sprinting to a first-place finish in 20.91 seconds, which not only secured an NAIA 'A' standard qualification but also set a new Lee University Invitational record. His time ranks first in the NAIA, marking an impressive start to the outdoor season. Vernon Ifill and Benjamin Nyakudya also posted solid times in the 200m, finishing 16th and 17th with times of 22.29 and 22.37, respectively. Kamari Cawthon placed 66th with a time of 24.87.

In the field events, Ahmed Demerdash claimed first place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.87m, adding another event win for the Phoenix.

Ethan Garcia took on the grueling 10,000m run, finishing seventh in a time of 33:25.39, while Maxwell Berkey placed 11th with a time of 38:31.05.

Dinkon Sinisterra showcased his versatility in the decathlon, finishing fourth overall with 3,064 points. He recorded top-three finishes in the high jump (1.77m) and shot put (10.99m), while also performing well in the 100m (11.95), 400m (52.33), and long jump (5.81m). He ended the competition 385 points behind the event winner.

The Phoenix will be in action tomorrow to round out the Lee University Invitational.
