Phoenix Cheer Advances to Finals at NCA College Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--Cumberland University's cheer team is moving on to the finals at the NCA College Nationals after a strong showing in the Intermediate Small Coed NAIA division on Thursday.

The Phoenix placed sixth out of nine teams in the preliminary round with a raw score of 76.3667. After 1.5 points in deductions, Cumberland finished with a score of 74.8667, locking in a spot in Friday's final round.

Roosevelt University set the pace for the division, earning the top spot with a raw score of 83.1333. Despite 1.75 points in deductions, their performance held up for an impressive 81.3833.

Friends University and Central Methodist University are tied in raw score at 78.4333, but Friends edged into second place due to lower deductions. With only half a point taken off, Friends finished with a 77.9333 while Central Methodist had one point in deductions to post a final of 77.4333.

Park University also remained in the mix with a solid showing, earning a raw score of 77.3 and 0.75 points in deductions for an score of 76.55, placing them fourth overall.

St. Thomas University rounded out the top five with a raw score of 76.8333. A 1.75-point deduction pushed their score down to 75.0833, just ahead of the Phoenix by a slim margin.

Point Park University, Missouri Baptist University, and Lyon College also competed in the division. Point Park finished seventh with a score of 69.25, followed by Missouri Baptist in eighth with a raw score of 72.5 but 6 points in deductions that dropped them to 66.5. Lyon College posted a raw score of 68.6333 and had 2.25 points deducted, ending with a score of 66.3833.

Finals for the division are set to take place Friday in Daytona Beach.
