Bokpin Grabs 1st Place Finish in 100m Prelims As Phoenix Sit in 4th After Day One of MSC Outdoor Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - - The Cumberland Men's Track and Field team competed in the first day of competition at the Mid-South Conference Track and Field Outdoor Championships, sitting in 4th place after day one of competition.

Mustapha Bokpin kicked off the action for the Phoenix with a 1st place finish in the 100m prelims. Bokpin has been stellar all season long and continues his tear with a top time of 10.24 in his prelim.

Next up the Phoenix had just one runner in the 3000m steeple, seeing Edwin Kigen run to a 7th place finish with his time of 10:22.40.

Cumberland had three different runners compete and grab points for them in the 10k, as Kennedy Bett was just shy of a win with his time of 31:35.24. Grabbing 5th and 6th place respectively, Ethan Garcia ran his race in a time of 35:23.08 while Maxwell Berkey was just behind him, 39:47.53.

Off the track and into the field, Tevaughn Tate and Dinkon Sinisterra both took top five finishes in the javelin throw. Tate finished in 3rd with his distance of 52.47m and Sinisterra grabbed 5th place with his throw going 43.33m.

Jumping into four more points for Cumberland, Amir Mersal competed in the long jump and his leap of 6.73m took him 4th place overall, as well as 5 more points for the Phoenix. Lastly, in the pole vault, Dinkon Sinsterra again took a top five finish, taking third with a vault height of 2.80m.

Cumberland will be back in action tomorrow in Kentucky, kicking off their first event at 8am.
