Phoenix Men Post NAIA-Ranked Performances at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Cumberland men's track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday at the Vanderbilt Invitational, highlighted by a pair of marks that moved into the NAIA performance lists.

Dinkon Sinisterra capped an impressive two-day showing by finishing third overall in the men's heptathlon with a total score of 4,513 points, a mark that currently ranks 13th-best in the NAIA. He was dominant in the final event, winning the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:51.40 to secure 751 points. Earlier in the day, Sinisterra placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69 seconds and added a pole vault clearance of 3.10 meters to complete the combined events.

In the field events, Oghentega Orekevwie turned in one of the Phoenix's top performances of the day in the triple jump, finishing 11th overall with a mark of 14.51 meters. The jump also met the NAIA "B" standard and currently sits 15th in the national rankings.

The sprints saw Veron Ifill and J'Noy Davis compete in the 60 meters, with Ifill posting a time of 7.11 seconds and Davis finishing just behind at 7.11 as well, placing 34th and 35th, respectively, in a field of 50 athletes. Mohamed Hatem Galal added a solid run in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 11th out of 19 with a time of 8.49 seconds.

Cumberland was also represented in the middle and distance events throughout the day. Bela Brandl led the Phoenix in the mile, clocking a time of 4:21.02, while Elliott Hughes followed at 4:26.71. In the 800 meters, Garrett Tunks crossed the line in 1:59.70. The men's 3,000 meters rounded out the meet for Cumberland, with Matteo Abel posting a time of 8:43.50 and Wesley Calderon closing at 10:29.37.

The Phoenix will next compete at the Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville at the end of the month.
