Phoenix Take on Deep Fields at Day One of Lenny Lyles Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland opened competition at the Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, with a full day of action across the sprints, middle distance, field events, and the men's heptathlon on Friday.

On the track, Veron Ifill led the way for the Phoenix in the sprints, placing 17th in the men's 200m (C Division) with a time of 22.19 before adding a 10th-place finish in the men's 400m (B Division) in 49.03. J'Noy Davis followed in the 200m, clocking a 22.36 to place 25th, while Mohamed Hatem Galal posted a 23.42 to finish 55th. In the 400m, Logan Istre recorded a time of 50.30 to place 19th in the B Division, and Garrett Tunks crossed the line in 54.05 to finish 38th in the C Division.

Cumberland also saw Elliott Hughes compete in the men's 800m, running 1:58.57 to place 64th, while Wesley Calderon closed the men's 3000m in 10:11.54, finishing 96th.

In the field events, Oghenetega Orekevwie represented Cumberland in the men's long jump, recording a mark of 6.43 meters (21-01.25) to place 33rd. The Phoenix were also represented in the men's heptathlon by Dinkon Sinisterra, who sits 13th overall after day one with 2,566 points. Sinisterra posted an 11.62-meter (38-01.50) effort in the shot put to place 11th, cleared 1.76 meters (5-09.25) in the high jump to finish 12th, jumped 6.28 meters (20-07.25) to place 14th in the long jump, and ran a 7.41 in the 60m to finish 15th.

On the women's side, Zora Neal competed in the 200m (C Division), clocking a 29.12 to place 67th. Wendy Komane turned in a time of 2:36.91 in the women's 800m to finish 74th, while Leesa Mutandwa highlighted the day for the Phoenix in the high jump, clearing 1.55 meters (5-01.00) to place 30th.

The Phoenix will finish out the event tomorrow in Louisville with the second day.
