Cumberland Wraps Up Lenny Lyles Invitational at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland closed out competition at the Lenny Lyles Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, with a full slate of performances on day two, highlighted by strong efforts in the distance events and the conclusion of the men's heptathlon.

On the men's side, J'Noy Davis competed in the 60m semifinals, posting a time of 7.11 to finish 56th, while Mohamed Hatem Galal followed in the 60m hurdles semifinals with a time of 8.62, placing 37th. 

In the distance races, Elliott Hughes and Bela Brandl represented the Phoenix in the men's mile, with Hughes crossing the line in 4:27.38 to place 94th and Brandl finishing in 4:31.58 to place 101st. Matteo Abel turned in one of Cumberland's top performances of the meet in the men's 5,000m, finishing 18th with a time of 15:10.14 setting a new school record in the event.

In the field events, Oghenetega Orekevwie competed in the men's long jump, recording a mark of 6.43 meters (21-01.25) to place 33rd.

The men's heptathlon wrapped up on day two with Dinkon Sinisterra completing all seven events to finish 15th overall with 3,370 points. Sinisterra placed 10th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 and followed with an 11th-place finish in the shot put after recording a mark of 11.62 meters (38-01.50). He was unable to record a height in the pole vault, resulting in a no height (NH) in the event.

On the women's side, Zora Neal returned to the track in the 60m semifinals, clocking an 8.28 to place 74th. Cumberland was also represented in the women's mile by Wendy Komane and Alexa Rumpf, with Komane posting a time of 5:44.98 to finish 93rd and Rumpf crossing the line in 6:17.88 to place 101st.

The Phoenix now turn their attention to their next meet as the indoor season continues, building on the experience gained against deep, nationally competitive fields in Louisville.
