Phoenix Men Finish Fourth at Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Cumberland Men's Track & Field placed fourth overall at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships, totaling 85 team points against a competitive conference field. 

The University of the Cumberlands claimed the team title with 340.5 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson in second with 157.5, Campbellsville in third with 89, and Cumberland narrowly behind in fourth. Georgetown finished fifth with 50 points, while Bethel rounded out the standings with 13.

The Phoenix were fueled by strong performances in both middle-distance events and relays, highlighted by runner-up finishes from Veron Ifill in the 400 meters and Bela BrandI in the mile. Ifill delivered an impressive time of 48.65 seconds to earn eight team points, while BrandI matched that point total with his second-place finish in the mile, clocking 4:19.20. BrandI also added five points in the 800 meters with a fourth-place finish in 1:55.92, showcasing his versatility across multiple distance events.

Cumberland's relay teams were instrumental in the team scoring, with the distance medley relay team of Elliott Hughes, Diego Silva, Garrett Tunks, and Bela BrandI earning eight points with a second-place finish in 10:38.80. The 4x400-meter relay team of J'Noy Davis, Veron Ifill, Dinkon Sinisterra, and Logan Istre also placed second, finishing in 3:17.75 to add another eight points. The Phoenix added six more points in the 4x800-meter relay, as BrandI, Wesley Calderon, Matteo Abel, and Hughes combined to finish third in 8:14.12.

In the sprint events, Ifill and Istre provided a strong one-two punch in the 400 meters, with Istre finishing fourth in 49.04 to score five points. Istre also added three points in the 200 meters with a sixth-place finish in 21.98, while Ifill contributed another point in the event with an eighth-place finish in 22.13. Dinkon Sinisterra scored five points in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fourth in 8.78 after qualifying for the finals earlier in the day.

The distance crew added key points throughout the meet, led by Matteo Abel, who placed third in the 5000 meters in 15:26.75 to score six points and added four more with a fifth-place finish in the 3000 meters in 9:03.45. Hughes also contributed in the mile, finishing eighth in 4:28.92 to earn one point.

Cumberland also found success in the field events, led by Liyu Scarlassara , who cleared 1.90 meters to finish third in the high jump and score six points. Scarlassara added another five points with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump at 12.09 meters. Sinisterra showcased his versatility by scoring in multiple disciplines, placing sixth in the pole vault at 2.95 meters to add three points, while Oghenetega Orekevwie scored three points with a sixth-place finish in the long jump at 6.43 meters.
