Track & Field Take on UAB Invitational in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Cumberland competed at the UAB Invite in Birmingham, Ala., turning in solid performances across the sprints, hurdles, middle distance, and distance events against deep fields.

In the men's sprints, J'Noy Davis opened the meet in the 60m prelims, placing 38th with a time of 7.10, while Mohamed Hatem Galal followed with a 7.32 to finish 64th. Galal also competed in the 60m hurdles prelims, where he placed 14th with a time of 8.50, while Dinkon Sinisterra crossed the line in 8.93 to finish 32nd. In the 200m, Logan Istre led the Phoenix with a 22.07 to place 17th, followed by Davis in 20th at 22.22 and Diego Silva Perez, who clocked a personal-best 23.82 to finish 58th.

Cumberland posted strong results in the 400m, with Veron Ifill placing 11th after running 49.86 and Istre close behind in 12th at 49.88. In the 800m, Bela Brandl finished 11th with a time of 1:57.73, while Elliott Hughes followed in 14th, recording a personal-best 1:57.94. The Phoenix closed the men's distance events with Matteo Abel, who turned in one of the top performances of the meet for Cumberland by placing fifth in the 3,000m with a time of 8:45.38.

On the women's side, Zora Neal competed in both sprint events, placing 48th in the 60m prelims with a personal-best 8.28 before adding a 62nd-place finish in the 200m with another personal-best time of 28.48. Alexa Rumpf represented the Phoenix in the 800m, finishing 31st with a time of 2:42.74, before returning in the mile, where she posted a personal-best 5:57.98 to place 35th. Wendy Komane also competed in the women's mile, finishing 26th with a personal-best time of 5:42.16.

Cumberland will turn their attention to postseason competition as they travel to Louisville on Tuesday, February 17th to take part in the Mid-South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
