Chesnut in Third, Phoenix Fifth After 27 at Currahee

TOCCOA, Ga.--Cumberland battled through the opening 27 holes of the Currahee Invitational on Monday, sitting fifth overall with 27 holes remaining in Tuesday's final round.

The Phoenix are +22 as a team after day one, opening with a 17-over 305 in round one and sitting five-over through nine holes in round two. Cumberland trails fourth-place Marian (IN) (+20) by just two shots and is four strokes back of third-place Cumberlands (+18). Indiana Wesleyan leads the field at +5, followed by Webber International at +8.

Patrick Chesnut leads the way for Cumberland sitting in third place at even par through 27. Chestnut turned in a one-over 73 in round one. He fired four birdies with three bogeys and one double. Chesnut is one-under on his round and even-par for the tournament, positioning himself at the top of the leaderboard. He trails first by four strokes going into tomorrow.

Harry Caygill is tied for 16th place at six-over overall after posting a 76 in the opening round. Caygill played a very steady round posting 15 pars with two bogeys and one double. He is two-over through nine holes in round two picking up two birdies.

Bailey Rousseau opened with a 77 in round one and is three-over through nine in round two to sit at eight-over for the tournament and tied for 24th place.

Gustav Fredriksson carded a 79 in his first round and is two-over through nine holes in round two to be tied for 28th place.

Egan Hadelman posted an 82 in round one and is two-over through nine in his second round. He is tied for 33rd place.

The Phoenix will return to the course Tuesday morning to complete the final 27 holes of the 54-hole event.
