LONDON, Ky.–Cumberland Men's Golf sits in fifth place after two rounds at the Patriot Invite, posting a 595 (301-294) at Crooked Creek Golf Club.
The Phoenix improved by seven strokes in round two and remain within striking distance of the top three heading into Tuesday's final round. The Patriots have the lead at 566 strokes followed by UNOH at 590. The Cumberlands B team is in third at 592 followed by William Penn in fourth at 593.
Cumberland was led by a strong bounce-back round from
Garrett Maria, who fired a 69 in round two to climb into ninth place overall at +2.
Patrick Chesnut and
Gustav Fredriksson are both tied for 15th at +4, while
Egan Hadelman and
Carter Stroup round out the team scoring.
Tiger Houston also competed as an individual and delivered one of the lowest rounds of the day for the Phoenix.
Maria led the charge for Cumberland, opening with a 77 before turning in one of the best rounds of the tournament in round two with a 69. Maria fired the three-under posting four birdies and just one bogey with 13 pars.
Chesnut sits tied for 15th after rounds of 75 and 73. Chesnut posted three birdies in both rounds with three bogeys and a triple in round one and two bogeys and a double in round two.
Fredriksson is also tied for 15th at +4 following rounds of 73 and 75. Fredriksson posted four birdies and five bogeys in round one. He had an up and down round in the second round posting five birdies, three bogeys, one double and one triple.
Hadelman holds 34th place after posting rounds of 78 and 77. He improved slightly in round two posting two birdies in the first round and four in the second.
Stroup is currently in 36th place with rounds of 76 and 80. He had a solid opening round and will look to bounce back in Tuesday's finale as the Phoenix aim to climb the standings.
Houston, competing as an individual, is tied for 24th overall at +9 after rounds of 82 and 71. He turned in one of the best rounds of the day for Cumberland in round two, firing five birdies, four of them came in a seven-hole stretch.
Cumberland will return to Crooked Creek Golf Club on Tuesday for the final round of the Patriot Invite.
