Baseball Receives Votes in NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll

LEBANON, Tenn.--The latest NAIA Baseball Top 25 Coaches' Poll was released Wednesday, with Cumberland Baseball receiving votes in the national poll for the first time since the preseason Top 25 poll. 

Cumberland sits at 18-24 overall record and a 5-7 mark in Mid-South Conference play, playing the 23rd-ranked strength of schedule in the NAIA.The Phoenix rank among the NAIA leaders offensively, sitting seventh nationally with 68 home runs while posting a .320 team batting average, .415 on-base percentage, and .545 slugging percentage. Cumberland has totaled 335 runs and 159 extra-base hits through 42 games, ranking inside the top 15 nationally in both total bases and slugging percentage.

Taylor (Ind.) baseball continues to lead the nation at No. 1, followed closely by Georgia Gwinnett at No. 2 and Bellevue (Neb.) at No. 3. Johnson (Tenn.) climbed to No. 4 after a strong stretch, while Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) baseball rounds out the top five.

The Mid-South Conference remains represented in the national rankings, led by Cumberlands (Ky.) at No. 9. Freed-Hardeman also received votes, along with Cumberland.

The NAIA Baseball Coaches' Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each conference and is used for publicity purposes only. The next poll will be released later this month as teams continue to position themselves for the NAIA National Championship Opening Round in May.

Cumberland will be on the road at Bethel this weekend. The weekend series has been pushed up to two games on Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
