Cumberland and Campbellsville Set for Pivotal Mid-South Conference Series

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Baseball returns to conference action on the road this weekend for a key Mid-South Conference series against Campbellsville, with both teams entering play at 4-5 in league action.

The Phoenix sit at 17-21 overall and will look to turn things around on the road, where they are 1-7 this season, while the Tigers arrive at 22-14 overall riding a five-game winning streak.

Cumberland brings in an explosive offense to the conference matchup, ranking seventh nationally with 63 home runs while posting a .327 team batting average and .560 slugging percentage. The Phoenix have also tallied 149 extra-base hits and 308 runs through 38 games, consistently producing offense throughout the lineup.

Wilser Then is the reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, who is hitting .394 with nine home runs, 35 RBI, and a .778 slugging percentage while reaching base at a .524 clip. Dylan LaRue has been equally productive, batting .375 with 10 home runs, 39 RBI, and five triples, while Caleb Royer adds a team-high 12 home runs with 29 RBI.

Gabriel Reyes is hitting .438, Gaines Haussin is at .357, and Aiden McDonald is hitting .346 entering the series. Cohl Proctor has added seven home runs and 28 RBI to give Cumberland power throughout the lineup.

Campbellsville counters with a balanced approach, hitting .279 as a team with a .396 on-base percentage and 34 home runs on the season. The Tigers are led offensively by Antony Gilbert, who is hitting .395 with seven home runs and 31 RBI, while Tate Wischnack adds eight home runs and a .682 slugging percentage. Jaxson Grubbs has hit six home runs and Brady Henke has .456 OBP.

On the mound, Cumberland is expected to roll out its weekend rotation of Logan Baskin, Carter Whitefield, and Mateo Santos. Baskin was the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week last week and enters with a 4-3 with a 4.11 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.  Whitefield has posted a team-best 3.02 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 41.2 innings. Santos rounds out the rotation at 4-1 with a 4.78 ERA.

Campbellsville is projected to start Tristin Crusenberry who holds 7-1 record with a 4.44 ERA, Joe McBride at 4-4 and a 4.07 ERA, and Brody Forno at 4-3 and a 5.36 ERA. 

Cumberland and Campbellsville have played over 100 times in the series history with the Phoenix hold a 71-33 record overall. In the last 10 matchups, Cumberland are 6-4 against the Tigers and are 26-21 on the road. 

With both Cumberland and Campbellsville sitting at 4-5 in Mid-South Conference play, this weekend's series carries significant weight in the league standings. The winner will gain separation in a tightly packed middle tier that also includes Bethel at 4-5.
