Cumberland Charges Up Leaderboard With 291 in Round Two to Second

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.--Cumberland climbed up the leaderboard after a strong second-round performance at the Mid-South Conference Championship, sitting second at Bowling Green Country Club.

Lindsey Wilson leads the field at 583 (286-297), using a tournament-low opening round to build enough separation. Cumberland follows in second, down by four strokes, at 587 (296-291), posting one of the best rounds of the day with a 291 in round two to close the gap.

Campbellsville's in third at 592 (292-300), while Bethel is fourth just one stroke back at 593 (293-300). The Cumberlands took fifth with a 599 (292-307), followed by Freed-Hardeman in sixth at 604 (295-309). Georgetown rounds out the field in seventh with a 614 (306-308).

Cumberland's second-round surge highlighted the day, as the Phoenix shaved five strokes off their opening round and recorded one of the lowest team scores of the tournament in round two, fighting against the tough course conditions with high winds.

Cumberland was paced individually by Gustav Fredriksson, who turned in an impressive two-round total of 141 (-3) to sit in second place heading into the final round.

Fredriksson opened the tournament with a bogey-free one-under 71, recording a clean card. He posted 17 pars and one birdie on the  He followed that performance with an even stronger second round, firing a two-under 70 to climb the leaderboard. In round two, Fredriksson caught fire early, tallying five birdies while limiting mistakes to just a single bogey and one double. He trails the leader by one stroke.

Patrick Chesnut finishing day one at 147 (+3) across two rounds in ninth place. Chesnut opened with a three-over 75 in round one, battling through a slow start that included a straight of four bogeys. After that he settled in to play the final 13 holes even-par. He responded in a big way during round two, firing an even-par 72 to climb the leaderboard. The highlight came in the final four holes that he played four-under with a birdie on No. 1 and an eagle on No. 2

Egan Hadelman is tied for 15th after posting a two-round total of 150 (+6), contributing to Cumberland's strong standing in the team race. Hadelman opened with a three-over 75 in round one. He matched that score in round two with another 75. Hadelman finished with five birdies on the day.

Harry Caygill and Carter Stroup subbed in in round two and put up good scores for the Phoenix. Caygill posted three birdies, just one bogey, but had two doubles to shoot a two-over 74. Stroup added a three-over 75 with one birdie, four bogeys, and 13 pars on the card.
