Fredriksson Claims 1st Place for Individual MSC Title; Phoenix Place 3rd

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - - Cumberland fought through round three of the Mid-South Championship pack, landing a third place finish as they were led by a Championship-winning performance from Gustav Fredriksson!

Lindsey Wilson led after day one and carried that lead through the final round, shooting four over for a final round of 292. Bethel followed closely with an excellent round of 290, totaling 883 strokes.

Cumberland took sole possession of third place on the penultimate hole of his round, as Fredriksson fired a birdie on 17 to help see the Phoenix to a final round of 298. Behind them, the University of the Cumberland Patriots shot just a single stroke more than CU, finishing on a total of 886, compared to 885 for third.

Campbellsville rounded out the top five with a big time performance in round one seeing them finish 26 over as a team. Freed-Hardeman and Georgetown rounded out the field, separated by only one stroke as the Lions went 43 over and the Tigers were one stroke more at 44 over.

After helping set the tone for the Phoenix on day one, it was again Gustav Fredriksson that brought the heroics in the final round, jumping fully ahead for the first time all tournament on his 52nd hole of the 54 played.

Fredriksson added his massive par total in the third, firing in 11 straight pars across his scorecard, aided by a trio of birdies as well. His 40 birdies were the second highest in the tournament, while he was the best of the bunch of par 4's, shooting three under across his three rounds.

Winning this title not only gives the Swede an individual automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship, but gives Cumberland their first individual winner in a conference championship since 2011, when Dustin Thomas won the TranSouth Men's Golf Championship.

Down the lineup, Egan Hadelman impressed in his final round as he went two over, shooting a 74 with four birdies to go along with it. His final total of 224 was good enough to tie for 16th in the event, second-high for the Phoenix.

Behind him, landing in a tie for 19th place was Patrick Chesnut who shot six over in his final round. Chesnut struggled to get going on the front nine, but shot well on the back nine with seven pars and a third-high placing for the Phoenix.

Butted up next to each other in 31st and 32nd, Garrett Maria reentered the lineup for the final round while Harry Caygill kept his place after a strong second round. Maria matched his mark from the first round with 75 strokes, Caygill however could not carry his momentum over to the final round as he shot a 77.
