Gary Dayhoff is a native of Bartletsville, Oklahoma. He came to Cumberland in the fall of 1987, playing baseball here for the next three years and graduating with a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1991. Following graduation he coached the outfielders and junior varsity through '92. In 1989, Gary had his best career season. As lead-off batter he averaged .440 With 83 hits, 18 home runs, 55 RBI's, 42 of 49 stolen bases, 18 doubles and 85 runs scored. Leading the team in batting average, hits, runs and steals. His career average is: 375 with 208 hits, 215 runs, 40 home-runs, 129 RBI's and 118 stolen bases. He is CU's all-time stolen base leader. Gary is one of two Cumberland athletes selected to the first team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Other honors include: CU M.V.P-1989...2 Time all TCAC-89 & 90...District 24 player of the year in '89...All-area 5 in '89 & 90...Area 5 player of the year for Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.....And honorable mention All-American in 1990. Coach Woody Hunt described Gary Dayhoff as, "One of the best players I have ever coached."
